Adult Instructors

If you feel that you have something to offer the youth of today, can give a commitment of one or two evenings a week plus 4 or 5 weekends a year and attend a two week Annual Camp each year, then why not consider becoming an Adult Instructor with Sussex Army Cadet Force.

This is an opportunity for you to help shape the youth of Sussex into becoming better citizens for tomorrow. Focus on their capacity for enthusiasm and their ability to help and care for others.

We are looking for young Officers and Adult Instructors, male and female, who are capable of being youth leaders.

Initially you will spend a useful learning period as an Adult Instructor before being considered for promotion.

Ideally there should be one Officer and one or two Adult Instructors with each Detachment, consisting of 15 to 35 cadets. There is no such thing as a typical Adult Instructor, they come from differing walks of life, a lot of whom have never had any military training before joining. No one expects you to take charge and lead a group of enthusiastic youngsters without the proper training and equipment. Uniform and equipment will be issued to you free of charge.

All the necessary training is given, either within the County or at:

The Cadet Training Centre at Frimley Park, Surrey.

Courses are from two days to two weeks, covering all aspects of teaching and training the youth of today. You should complete an initial training course within your first year, and this coupled with text books, manuals and assistance from the qualified Adult Instructors, will enable you to master the training syllabus and begin to develop your skills as an Army Cadet Force Adult Instructor. You will have the opportunity to organise and implement all aspects of the training syllabus, which includes weekends away, in imaginative ways to hold the interest of the cadets.

What is in the ACF for Adults?

There is the reward of voluntarily helping the young people to become young achievers, thereby creating better citizens for the future. Knowing that by becoming young achievers they improve their employment prospects. No one joins the Army Cadet Force for financial rewards, although you can receive up to 28 days pay for your efforts and be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses. People become Adult Instructors for the enormous sense of satisfaction for a worthwhile job well done.
